Replace the wiper

Introduction

When you have real quality issues, smudging of your print and the platen, that cannot be solved by manual maintenance or any other of the troubleshooting actions you might need to replace your wiper. For more information, see Improve quality.

Before you begin

Use Colorado 1630 prescribed:

  • Microflex gloves for handling ink

  • Wiper

  • Lint free cloths and swabs

  • Matrix plate cleaning tool and foam

  • Cleaning liquid (IPA) for the platen

  • Cleaning liquid (Methyl benzoate) for the matrix plate, maintenance station and clean wall

NOTE

NOTE

It is advised to replace the maintenance tray before you replace the wiper. It prevents the wiper from falling into a maintenance tray filled with ink.

CAUTION

Wear the prescribed gloves when contact with ink or maintenance materials is possible. Gloves should always overlap sleeves. Follow the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) guidelines carefully in order to ensure maximum safety.

Procedure

  1. On the operator panel tap on the [Tools] icon on the right.
  2. Tap on [Wiper].
  3. Tap on [Replace] and read the instructions.
  4. Move to the media input side and wait till the carriage has moved into position.
  5. Put on the Colorado 1630 approved gloves.
  6. Open the top cover.
  7. Clean the platen. For more information, see Clean the platen.
  8. Locate the maintenance station with the wiper on the right hand side.
  9. Hold the wiper with your left hand and use your right hand to pull the wiper holder on the right (1). Take the wiper out (2).
    CAUTION

    Be careful to touch, the wiper can be hot. Let the wiper cool down for five minutes.

  10. Dispose the wiper as chemical waste according to local regulations.
  11. Clean the maintenance station and clean wall. For more information, see Clean the maintenance station, wiper and clean wall.
    NOTE

    Perform the action from step 5, do not exit the 'Clean the wiper' window.

  12. Place a new wiper back. Put the left side in first and click the right side into the holder. Make sure the wiper is fully clicked into the holder.
  13. Clean the matrix plate. For more information, see Clean the matrix plate area.
    NOTE

    Perform the action from step 3, do not exit the 'Clean the wiper' window.

  14. Dispose the gloves as chemical waste according to local regulations.
  15. Close all covers.
  16. On the operator panel, tap on [Replaced] to end the maintenance action.

    The counter will be reset.

    IMPORTANT

    When you only have cleaned the wiper, click [Not replaced]. The life time counter for the wiper should not be reset in this case.
