Safety Control System (SCS)

Introduction

The Arizona 6100 XTHF Mark II series printers are equipped with a Category 3, Performance Level 'd' Safety Control System (SCS) to protect the operator and any other personnel when working with the machine. The printer is equipped with Emergency Stop Buttons, several Interlock Switches and an Automation Interface for auxiliary equipment (handling the printer output material). Including a Stop Strip on either side of the Gantry. A green beacon light located on the Carriage indicates the Active/Disabled status of the SCS of the printer.

Components of the Safety Control System

There are various elements to the SCS:

  1. Emergency Stop Buttons

  2. Maintenance Access Door Interlock Switch

  3. Carriage Guards (Left and Right)

  4. UV Lamps Housing (Home and Away)

  5. Automation Interface

  6. Stop Strip (Front and Rear)

1. Emergency Stop Buttons:

Activating one of the Emergency Stop buttons will stop all printer motion and turns off the UV curing system. Emergency Stop Buttons are installed on both ends of the Gantry and on the User Interface Desk.

2. Maintenance Access Door Interlock Switch:

The Maintenance Access Door is located at one end of the printer and allows access to the bottom of the carriage to perform Manual Printhead Maintenance and to swab printheads. When the door is open, the Carriage, the Gantry motion motors and UV curing system are disabled.

3. Carriage Guards

The Carriage Guards are located on both sides of the carriage. When one of the Carriage Guards detects an obstruction, all printer motion stops and the UV curing system is turned off.

4. UV Lamp Housings (Home and Away)

Both UV lamp housings have an Interlock Switch. When a UV lamp housing is opened this will deactivate the complete UV curing system (home and away).

NOTE

The UV lamp will still be hot.

5. Automation Interface

The machine is equipped with an interface to connect to the SCS of the auxiliary equipment. Pressing an emergency stop on the Arizona machine will result in a stop of the auxiliary machine (and vice versa). This interface is configurable.

6. Stop Strip

On either side of the Gantry a stop strip is installed. When pressing this Stop Strip (at any location along its length) this will trip the SCS in the same manner as the Emergency Stop. All printer motion will be stopped and the UV curing system will be switched off.

To re-activate the printer after an Emergency Stop Button is pressed, it needs to be turned counter-clockwise. Other actuators will reset itself after release. Upon release, no motion can be initiated without acknowledgment by the operator from the user interface desk.

Beacon Light Status

A green beacon light, located on the carriage, indicates to the operator the status of the Safety Control System and the printer.

Beacon off indicates the printer can be approached without caution. The machine cannot initiate movement since the Safety Control System has disabled all motion and hazardous hardware.

Beacon on indicates the printer is powered up and ready to initiate motion. This informs the operator to approach the machine with caution, because it can initiate motion at any moment.
