Printing on Porous Media

Introduction

During printing, ink will penetrate deeper into porous media compared to non-porous media. The deeper the ink penetrates into the media, the more difficult it is to fully cure the ink. Un-coated corrugated cardboard is considered to be porous media.

Safety Guidelines

For printing images on porous media with high ink loads the following safety guidelines are recommended:

  • Use Canon recommended profiles. This will help limit the ink load to a safe level. Canon recommended profiles can be found at http://www.onyxgfx.com/my-onyx/drivers-and-profiles/

  • Use “Production” or slower print modes if possible

  • Set UV lamp power levels to high

  • Handle printed media with prescribed gloves

  • Avoid un-coated cardboard media with a high content of recycled materials. Media with a high content of recycled materials will allow ink to penetrate deeper in to the media

NOTE

For printing in “Express” mode the UV lamp power level is fixed at the highest possible level by the printer .
