Clean the ink unit

Introduction

It is advised to clean the ink unit regularly to keep the printer in the best condition. You can clean the ink unit when you replace a bottle or during periodic maintenance. When you see ink pollution, immediately clean the affected area.

Before you begin

Use Colorado 1650 prescribed:

  • Microflex gloves for handling ink

  • Lint free cloths

  • Cleaning liquid (IPA)

NOTE

For information on the prescribed maintenance materials, see List of Colorado 1650 maintenance materials.

CAUTION
  • Wear the prescribed gloves when contact with ink or maintenance materials is possible. Gloves should always overlap sleeves. Follow the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) guidelines carefully in order to ensure maximum safety.

IMPORTANT

Use the prescribed cleaning liquid. Do not use any other cleaners.

Procedure

  1. Go to the side of the printer where the ink bottles are located.
  2. Put on the Colorado 1650 approved gloves.
  3. Move down the green handle which is located left of the bottle you want to replace.

Do not hold the bottle while you move the handle.

  4. Take the empty bottle out of the slot.
  5. Dispose the bottle as chemical waste according to local regulations.

If preferred and possible, you can repeat the steps to take out all bottles.

  6. Take a lint free cloth and clean the indicated areas surrounding the slots until all residue ink is gone.

If necessary, dampen a swab with the cleaning liquid to remove any remaining ink.

  7. When all residue ink is removed, dispose the gloves and cloths as chemical waste according to local regulations.

Results

If preferred and possible, you can place new bottles and refill ink. The order of the bottles from left to right is YCMK. For more information, see Refill ink.
