Duster 3000FC Air Filtration System Consumables

Introduction

In order to maintain the Island Clean Air Duster 3000FC air filtration systems, several consumable items are needed. There are two different types of filters for the Duster 3000FC system, those that filter particulate matter and those that filter chemical emissions. These filters are described below.

Dust Pad (3010118359)

The exterior, green-colored filter, visible on three of the four sides of the system is called the Dust Pad. The Dust Pad is a coarse pre-filter that is designed to trap and hold large dust and particulate matter as it is initially drawn into the system. This pre-filter is comprised of a coarse media that can be cleaned several times but that does deteriorate over time and requires replacement 1 to 2 times per year on average. The Dust Pad can be shaken, blown with compressed air from the inside or vacuumed from the outside, in order to clean it. This filter requires replacement only when it loses its physical form (in the retaining frame) and is no longer self-supporting.

Intake Filter (3010117962)

Located between the green-colored Dust Pad and the Lower Carbon Filter is the white-colored Intake Filter. The Intake Filter is designed to trap small particles from the air that are not filtered by the Dust Pad pre-filter. It is constructed of sponged, bonded polyester and is designed to have a long useful life; as a result it does not require frequent replacement. The Intake Filter can be cleaned by vacuum cleaner from the outside surface or by gentle pressure washing from the inside surface (maximum 400 psi/2700 kPa). If cleaned regularly as required, this filter may last up to 4 years in a very dusty environment. In a cleaner environment, it may never require replacement. Cleaning is required when air flow in the system drops below 3000 cfm or 85 m3/minute. When cleaning the Intake Filter the covering Dust Pad should also be examined for cleaning or replacement. The Intake Filter has no planned replacement rate, but keep a supply on hand to account for cases of premature wear, accidental damage, or loss.

Lower Carbon Filter (3010117952 )

Located behind the three green-colored Dust Pads and the three white-colored Intake Filters are the three Lower Carbon Filters. The Lower Carbon Filter is a mesh-screened structure filled with activated carbon pellets. The activated carbon acts as a binding agent to capture and retain chemicals from the air in order to prevent them from exhausting back into the environment. Each of the Lower Carbon Filters has a starting weight of only 6.8 kg (15 pounds) when new. As the activated carbon pellets become saturated with captured chemicals, their mass gradually increases. When a Lower Carbon Filters reaches a weight of 11.8 kg (26 pounds) the activated carbon is considered to be completely saturated and the filter must be replaced.

NOTE

The Lower Carbon Filter Refill contains only one Lower Carbon Filter only. The customer must purchase three (3) Lower Carbon Filter Refills to service all three (3) Lower Carbon Filters; which should be serviced simultaneously since they saturate at approximately the same rate.

IMPORTANT

The timely replacement of the Lower Carbon Filters is very important. If these filters are not exchanged when their individual weights exceed 11.8 kg (26 pounds) each, the Upper Carbon Filter will then quickly become saturated as a result and the user will be forced to replace it prematurely. This is very expensive and unnecessary. If the Lower Carbon Filters are exchanged as directed, then the Upper Carbon Filter will last for approximately 2 years use.

Upper Carbon Filter (3010117951)

The Upper Carbon Filter is a large, pleated structure located at the top of the system designed to capture any airborne chemicals not successfully trapped by the Lower Carbon Filters. It contains 10.9 kg (24 pounds) of activated carbon pellets that gradually become chemically saturated with use. When the total mass of the Upper Carbon Filter has increased to 19 kg (42 pounds) it must be replaced.

IMPORTANT

The useful life of the Upper Carbon Filter will be extended by following the recommended service interval for the three Lower Carbon Filters. If the Lower Carbon Filters are not replaced promptly upon reaching their specified maximum weight they will over-saturate (with ink) and the Upper Carbon Filter will quickly saturate as a result.
