  • Store consumables, supplies and maintenance materials away from containers for food and drink.

  • Be careful when handling fluids. Clean up spilled fluids immediately, to minimize the risk of slipping and serious injuries.

CAUTION
  • Only use the materials the manufacturer recommends and that are developed for the machine. Materials that have not been approved by the manufacturer may result in failure of the machine.

  • Use maintenance materials and other materials for their intended purpose only.

  • Ink polluted gloves and uncured printed media are considered chemical waste and should be disposed according to local regulations.

  • Do not place any liquids on the machine.

  • Curing of media of the Océ supported media-list is tested and considered sufficient under standard conditions. For curing of custom media see the user manual.

  • Waste of consumables must not be disposed together with household rubbish. Do not allow the product to reach the sewage system. Dispose of waste of consumables, supplies and maintenance materials and its packaging containing residues according to all federal, state and local applicable regulations.

UV ink

CAUTION
  • UV inks and flush liquids can be harmful if not properly handled. Follow always the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) guidelines carefully in order to ensure maximum safety.

  • Avoid skin contact with ink and uncured printed media.

  • Wear specified safety glasses when handling inks or maintenance materials.

  • Wear gloves when contact with ink or maintenance materials is possible. Follow the ink related Safety Data Sheets (SDS) guidelines carefully in order to ensure maximum safety. For example use Ansell Microflex 93-260 gloves, which offer a protection against UV inks and flush liquids up to one hour. Pollution with other chemicals can shorten the protection time against UV inks and flush liquids.

  • Do not reuse single-use gloves.

  • Do not handle prints without gloves if the ink is not properly cured.

  • If ink contacts your skin: clean immediately with soap and water. Do not use alcohol or other solvents.

  • If ink contacts your eye(s) flush with water, consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and contact a doctor.

  • Inks are not suitable for food-related or children-related applications (e.g. plates, toys).

  • Always measure the thickness of the media in use and set the print carriage height correctly for that media. Avoid printing at a height greater than measured as this causes excessive emissions of UV-light and UV-ink (mist).

  • All waste containing uncured or partly cured UV ink is hazardous and must be disposed of separately according to local regulations. Do not mix ink waste with non-hazardous waste (household, office, etc.). Do not allow it to reach sewage systems or drinking water supplies. Ink waste includes maintenance pads and cloths, gloves and any other material containing uncured or partly cured UV ink. Disposal must be made according to all federal, state and local applicable regulations.

  • Waste ink must not be disposed together with household rubbish. Do not allow the ink to reach the sewage system. Dispose of waste ink and packaging containing ink residues according to all federal, state and local applicable regulations.

UV light (UV lamps)

CAUTION
  • Be aware that UV light is an invisible risk for eyes and skin. Superficial eye damage and burning of skin can occur with even brief exposure to UV light. Serious injuries can result from prolonged exposure, especially if unshielded. Keep a distance of at least 1 m from UV lamps when printing, to prevent eye and skin damage.

  • Skin contact with the UV lamp bulbs must be avoided. When heated, compounds from the skin can form permanent etching of the surface of the UV bulb. A contaminated bulb may fail prematurely.

  • The UV spectrum emitted by the machine consists of UVA (315–400 nm) and UVB (280 – 315 nm) light. Wear UV safety glasses (goggles) with side shields and lenses that block UVA and UVB light (e.g. UVEX safety spectacles CBR 65).

  • Wear appropriate clothing that protects the skin for UV light. Gloves and long-sleeved work clothes are essential to reduce skins exposure to UV light emission.

  • UV lamps operate at high temperature. Never touch these lamps in operation. Let the lamps cool for a minimum of five minutes before attempting any maintenance.

  • Use extreme care in handling the UV lamp bulbs. These UV bulbs contain a small amount of mercury (Hg) which is toxic. Therefore, if bulbs are broken, care should be taken to clean up the spill immediately, and then dispose of according local regulations concerning mercury disposal.

  • Avoid staring directly into the UV lamp.

  • As a UV lamp warms up, it briefly passes through a section of the light spectrum which excites oxygen molecules enough to create ozone. Once a UV lamp has completely warmed up, only very minute amounts of ozone are present. A high concentration of ozone can cause irritation, headaches or nausea. Provide adequate ventilation as indicated in the related Product Safety Data Sheet (PSDS) of the printer.

Disposal of parts

WARNING
  • All parts are produced according to the sustainability policy of Océ. You can discard all used parts into a common dustbin, or follow your local or national sustainability and waste disposal procedures.

Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)

CAUTION
  • Do not touch or ingest fluids from a broken Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). When clothes or skin come into contact with the fluid, immediately clean the clothes and skin with soap and water. After eye contact, immediately rinse the eyes with a washing lotion for at least 15 minutes and consult a physician.

  • Do not rub, press or touch the (LCD) display surface with hard material, because the polarizer at the surface can be easily scratched. The LCD module can get damaged when you drop, pinch too hard or punch the module, as it is made of glass. When glass breaks, be careful you do not get injured by pieces of glass. Then call Customer Service.
