The delivered security update package is cumulative. This means that the package includes all preceding patches.

Approach

Operating systems updates which are released can exist of multiple separate files that need to be installed. This is called an update package.

In front of the filename a number is added to indicate the installation order within the update package, for example a package can contain the following updates:

  • 1_ssu_....

  • 2_lcu_...

  • 3_dtp48_

The operating systems updates can be downloaded from the Canon website.

The installation of the files in the update package needs to be executed in an incremental order.

Due to disk size limitations in some systems check if a specific patch is already installed before you upload the files. This also saves time in case that a file already has been installed before.

After the installation of a file, a restart is required before you continue with the next file.

Before you begin

  1. Installing updates is not allowed for every role. Before you start the procedure make sure that you know the System Administrator credentials.

  2. Download the update package files to a local computer.

  3. NOTE

    Not applicable to Colorado:

Check that no Customer specific solution is enabled.

See the Settings Editor: [Support] > [Software] > [Customer specific solutions] > [Installed solution], value = None.

    NOTE

In case a specific solution is configured call your service representative to have the security update installed

Procedure

  1. In the Settings Editor goto the location where the updates can be installed

[Support] > [Software Updates] > [Operating system updates]

The figure is indicative; the layout can differ for other products.

  2. Check if an update is already installed.

In some cases an update is already installed. In that case the installation of that update can be skipped. You can check this by comparing the 'kb' number from the update with the 'kb' numbers that are already installed.

  3. Upload, validate and restart the update file to install.

Click the [Select a file] button to browse to the security update on the file system that needs to be installed.

  4. Select [OK] to upload the selected file to the printer.

The duration of the upload and the validation process depends on the size of the update. Do not reboot your system during this process.

    NOTE

Due to required privileges a login can popup where you must login as System Administrator to continue

  5. When the update is uploaded, press the [OK] button to start the validation.

The file will be validated and when the validation is successful the system asks you to restart.

    NOTE

The validation process can take much longer when McAfee integrity control (Protection against unauthorized system changes) option is available and active on the printer.

  6. Select the option [Restart now].

After the reboot repeat the installation steps for the next update, e.g. 2_lcu_<....>, until all the indicated updates are installed.
