Create a new application

Introduction

This topic describes how you can create a block-out application from an ONYX job. The block-out is going to be printed on a single side of a clear media, but will be visible from both sides. A black layer in the middle blocks out the light. Between the block-out layer and the two color layers that represent the 2 sides of the application, white masks will be used. Different print modes are used for the different layer types of the application.

Procedure

  1. Open a PDF file in ONYX Thrive, in this example "New-recipe.pdf".
  2. Select the PDF file and click on [Arizona Xpert].
  3. Select the PDF file in the job list and click on [New application].
  4. A new Arizona Xpert Engine job is created with a single layer.
  5. Open the [Layers] tab.
  6. Click on the copy icon twice to create two copies of the color layer.
  7. To create the block-out layer between the two color layers change the layer type from the middle layer to [Image area mask]. Change the color of the layer to [Block-out (black)]. You can also use a different print mode for this layer - i.e. change it to [Express].
  8. To create the white layers between each of the color layers and the block-out layer click on the copy icon to of the block-out layer to create two copies. Adjust the layer settings of the white layers as indicated below.
  9. Open the [Overview] tab. Click-and-hold the left mouse button to rotate the 3D view and to check the back of the application. Note that the back of the application is not displayed correctly.
  10. Open the [Layers] tab. Select the bottom layer and click on [Flip horizontal].
  11. Open the [Overview] tab. Click-and-hold the left mouse button to rotate the 3D view and to check the back of the application. Note that the back of the application is not displayed correctly. This also means that the application will be printed correctly on the clear media.
