Print workflow

The basic steps to follow for printing a job:

Prepare a Digital Image with ONYX Thrive

Operator must be trained to use ONYX Thrive. Training is provided by ONYX.

Send the Job From ONYX Software to the Printer

When the job is sent from the ONYX software, the job transmission progress is indicated in the lower right corner of the User Interface display. After the transmission has completed it will appear in the list of Active print jobs in the Job Control Module.

Perform Maintenance (if this is the first print of the day)

Refer to the Maintenance chapter in this manual for details.

Measure Media Thickness

Use a digital slide caliper to accurately measure the thickness of the media. A small error in measurement of media thickness can reduce print quality. A large error can cause a carriage crash with the media.

Select Job To Be Printed, Check Print Parameters And Verify Media Thickness

Click on the job to be printed from the active job list to select it. After it is selected click the Print icon and the information and parameters for the job will be displayed. If needed, enter the measured media thickness value and set the lamp levels. Select the Confirm Printing parameters buttons when the information is correct.

Prepare Media for Printing

Place And Register Media On The Printer Vacuum Table

Define the offset values in the printer software. Choose one of the two origins, left or right as a reference point. Place the media on the table at the corresponding location (use the table rulers and the registration pins to help with placement - see Media Registration).

Set the vacuum level

Select the vacuum level in the printer software. The vacuum system regulates the pressure automatically. It is not needed to mask the table. Only when the vacuum system cannot maintain the necessary pressure masking is needed.

See Set the vacuum level for the Flow table to learn more about the vacuum levels.

Turn On Table Vacuum

IMPORTANT

When the vacuum is switched off, wait a few seconds before you switch it on again.

Click on the Vacuum button in the printer UI to activate the table vacuum. Also a vacuum foot pedal switch is provided to help secure the media on the table vacuum. Step on the foot pedal to toggle the table vacuum on or off.

Clean Media, If Required

If the media is dusty or dirty, clean it with an appropriate cleaner. If using a liquid like isopropyl alcohol, allow sufficient time to dry prior to imaging.

Start Print

The physical Print button is located at the corner of the table where media is loaded and a Start print is also available in the UI. Press either Print button to start the print job.
