Publisher Select 3 and security

Question

The security policy prevents Publisher Select 3 from connecting to your printer.

Which port must be opened to allow the communication between Publisher Select 3 and the printer controller?

Answer

Publisher Select 3 may not be able to connect to the printer controller when:

  • A firewall on the workstation is configured to prevent connections to the internet/intranet.

  • A firewall in the network is configured to prevent connections to the internet/intranet through HTTP port 80.

  • A proxy is placed between the workstation and the printer controller.

Open the HTTP port 80

To be able to connect to the printer controller, Publisher Select 3 needs only the outgoing HTTP port 80 to be opened on the workstation.

Make sure that no proxy server blocks the communication between the workstation hosting Publisher Select 3 and the printer controller.

NOTE

To get detailed security information about the use of Publisher Select 3 with your security system, refer to the PlotWave-ColorWave Systems Security - Administration guide available on the downloads website, http://downloads.cpp.canon.

HTTPS

Publisher Select 3 can use HTTPS with the ColorWave 3600/3800 and the PlotWave 3x00/5x00/7500 when a CA-signed certificate is installed on the printer.

Port 443 will be used.

For imagePROGRAF printers

To be able to connect to a imagePROGRAF printer, Publisher Select 3 needs the outgoing CPCA port 47545 in UDP mode to be opened on the workstation.

To be able to print to a imagePROGRAF printer, Publisher Select 3 needs the outgoing RAW port 9100 or LPR port 515 (depending on the port selected when the Canon driver was installed) in TCP mode to be opened on the workstation.
