A hotfolder is a shared folder on the PRISMAsync Print Server. Users can simply drag & drop PDF files into a hotfolder to print the files automatically. Access to the hotfolders is protected by a username and password combination. Use the Settings Editor to configure at least one user who is authorised to access hotfolders.
You can create a maximum of 250 hotfolders on PRISMAsync. A maximum of 10 hotfolders can be active simultaneously.
When you enable hotfolder printing, you have to enable the protocols WebDAV, SMB or both for the hotfolders.
You have to select an automated workflow for each hotfolder. The automated workflow defines how each job must be printed.
Optionally, you can add a JDF ticket to each hotfolder.
Optionally, a job ticket can be submitted to the hotfolder as part of the print file. For example, job submission via LPR, or submission from a Xerox printer resulting in a print job using an XPIF ticket.
The JDF ticket or job ticket also defines how each job must be printed. However, it is recommended that each print setting is available only in the automated workflow or only in the ticket. When the same print setting is available in both the automated workflow and the ticket, then setting "Overrule job ticket" determines which print setting is used:
Overrule job ticket = true
The print setting in the automated workflow is used. The same print setting in the ticket is ignored.
Overrule job ticket = false
The print setting in the ticket is used. The same print setting in the automated workflow is ignored.
You can create a JDF ticket for a hotfolder when you require complex operations like page programming that cannot be achieved by an automated workflow. The JDF ticket can define how each job must be printed in addition to print settings defined by the automated workflow. You can create a JDF ticket in three ways:
Generate a JDF ticket with a printer driver of a PRISMAsync based printer.
Use the ticket editor in the Settings Editor of the PRISMAsync Print Server to generate a JDF ticket.
Create the JDF ticket manually.
The name of the JDF ticket must be "default_ticket.jdf". You have to save the JDF ticket "default_ticket.jdf" in the hotfolder on the print server. The JDF ticket itself is never printed.
The JDF ticket must not contain the MIME type which indicates the PDL type of the job data. The ticket must not contain the PDL type. The automated workflow settings or an automatic PDL type sensing will detect the PDL type.
When the hotfolder contains a JDF ticket, then any ticket which is part of the print file is ignored, for example an XPIF ticket.
Problem |
Cause and solution |
---|---|
Not possible to map a hotfolder |
|
The document is not printed and no longer available in the hotfolder |
|
The document is not printed and still available in the hotfolder |
|
The document is not printed according to the properties of the JDF ticket. |
PRISMAsync Print Server has detected that the JDF ticket is not valid and removed it from the hotfolder. Check the JDF ticket. |
There is a slow response when the hotfolder communication protocol is WebDAV and you use a Windows 7 workstation. |
Adjust the proxy server settings. See: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2445570 |
The following error message is displayed while you map a drive via WebDAV on a Windows 7 workstation: The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another. |
If you used the [Add network location] function, repeat the procedure with the [Map network drive] function. See: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2560598 |
Print document remains in the hotfolder at zero bytes. This can occur the first time a print document is dropped into a new mapped drive. |
Remove the print document from the hotfolder. Drag and drop the document again into the hotfolder. To avoid the problem, you can use a third-party WebDAV client. |
