The printheads can move up and down in vertical direction above the print belt. The print gap is the distance between the top of the sheet and the printhead. The printhead height is the distance between the printheads and the print belt.
To obtain the optimal productivity and print quality the printhead height is default 1100 micrometer independently of the media thickness. This means that the actual print gap slightly differs in case of thinner or thicker media.
Media print modes have two print gap parameters: the minimum print gap and the maximum print gap. Together they compose the print gap range. By default the minimum is 1000 micrometer, and maximum print gap is 1400 micrometer. The default media thickness is 100 micrometer, resulting in a default printhead height of 1100 micrometer. For most media this is the optimal setting.
In case of a lot of sentry rejects, due to improper flatness of sheets, the minimum print gap (and maximum print gap) of a media print mode can be increased.
The printhead height will be increased which takes a short time. Frequent adjustments of the printhead height may cause productivity problems in the print environment. This can occur when you print jobs with mixed media or print jobs with different media in one run.
A larger print gap can cause streaks on the prints.
