Solve printhead alignment failures

Automatic printhead alignment failure can be caused by a printhead that has reached end-of-life. Follow the procedure below when the automatic printhead alignment fails twice.

IMPORTANT

When you have recently placed a new printhead and the automatic printhead alignment fails, follow the Replace Printheads procedure to reseat the new printhead.

Before you begin

To identify the printhead that has reached end-of-life you need the automatic printhead alignment test print as a reference.

Printhead positions

The printhead transitions B and C are closest to the middle of the printed output, approximately 10.8 centimetres from the middle. The printhead transitions A and D are located approximately 32.8 centimetres from the middle.

Procedure

  1. Examine the printhead transitions to identify the printhead that has reached end-of-life.

    When the printhead transition looks like this:

    Then:

    Both the printhead to the left and the printhead to the right are okay.

    The printhead to the left has reached end-of-life.

    The printhead to the right has reached end-of-life.

  2. Replace the printhead that has reached end-of-life.Replace the printhead that has reached end-of-life (See Replace printheads).
