Lines within swaths

Introduction

Problem description

Cause

Action

Sharp OD/gloss lines for a single mono-color and its corresponding mixed colors.

A single light line (does not repeat in next swath).

Detected too late for compensation in that swath.

Cannot be solved (a slower print mode will reduce the problem).

A light line that repeats in multiple swaths, high quality mode or better.

Probably undetected nozzle failure or side shooter.

Run automatic maintenance + nozzle optimization. See Start automatic maintenance.

Dark/light/gloss lines (single mono-color/not at swath boundary)

Probably compensated nozzle failure, but still (somewhat) visible.

Run automatic maintenance + nozzle optimization (to recover the nozzle).

See Start automatic maintenance.

Use a print mode with more passes.

Many lines or a thin band, doesn’t go away after manual maintenance

Run printhead test chart. See Analyze the printhead quality check chart. If lines are visible over multiple printhead colors, verify if the printer is correctly cleaned (fibers).

Follow the procedure below. You can stop at any time in the procedure when the problem is solved.

Procedure

  1. Perform automatic maintenance with nozzle optimization and manual maintenance. See Start automatic maintenance and Start manual maintenance.
    Lines due to nozzle failure
  2. Perform media calibration. Calibrate the media.
  3. Check if the [Media thickness] setting in the RIP is correct. Change the media settings.
  4. Select a higher quality print mode. Select a print mode.
