Create a new recipe with an embedded file

Introduction

This topic describes how you can create a recipe with an embedded file. The recipe we use here is a backlit application with two images. One is visible during the day. The second image is only visible when the backlight is on. The first image will be embedded in the recipe, the second will be variable.

Procedure

  1. Open a PDF file in ONYX Thrive.
  2. Select the PDF file and click on [Arizona Xpert].
  3. Select the PDF file in the job list and click on [New application] .
  4. A new Arizona Xpert Engine job is created with a single layer.
  5. Open the [Files] tab and click on the button [New file] to add a file to your application.
  6. Click on the new entry to import the file.
  7. Open the [Layers] tab.

    There are two layers present.

  8. Select the bottom layer.
  9. Click on the copy icon twice to create two copies of the layer.

    Then change the order of the layers.

  10. Select the bottom layer.

    Change the layer [Type] to [Image area mask] and change the [Color] of the layer to [Block-out (black)].

  11. Select the bottom two layers and click on the button [Merge selected layers].

    When the two layers are merged, they will be printed in a single pass. When you turn on the light, it will pass through the text, but the light will be blocked by the black layer everywhere else.

  12. Select the middle layer.

    Change the layer [Type] to [Image area mask] and change the [Color] of the layer to [White].

    The white layer is needed so that the colors are not influenced by the black layer at the bottom.

    A [White] layer is created.

  13. Open the [Overview] tab. Click-and-hold the left mouse button to rotate the 3D view and to check the application.
  14. Click on [Save as a recipe].
  15. Add the specifications in the popup screen:

    1. Define a name for the new recipe

    2. Add a description of the functionality.

    3. You can upload an icon to identify the recipe in the Arizona Xpert Engine user interface.

    4. Define input hints for the type of input files that are needed to create an application using the new recipe.

  16. Tick the [Lock] check box of the files you want to embed in the recipe.

    The files will be present in all new applications based on the new recipe.

  17. Click [Create recipe].
