The varioPRINT 6000 Series uses Adobe PDF Print Engine (APPE) version 5.4 as the default interpreter to print PDF files.
PDF2PS is used for legacy applications.
APPE
The Adobe PDF Print Engine directly converts the PDF data into bitmaps.
APPE supports PDF 2.0.
PDF2PS
The Adobe PDF to PostScript converter converts the PDF data into PostScript. Then, the Adobe PostScript interpreter converts the PS data into bitmaps.
The PDF2PS conversion has limitations with regards to colour handling and transparencies. These limitations are due to the limitations of the PostScript language itself. You can explicitly select the PDF2PS interpreter for an automated workflow. To do so, select value "Yes" for setting [PDF to PostScript conversion] in the automated workflow.
PDF2PS supports PDF 1.7, ExtensionLevel: 3.
