How to Change the UV Lamp Filters

Introduction

The top of the UV lamps contain two filters that keep dust and other airborne particles from entering the lamp. If the filter becomes clogged with dust and debris it can cause overheating and even failure of the lamps.

About this task

Check the condition of the filters weekly and replace them every two weeks.

NOTE

If you receive a lamp overheat error, check for dust or debris. If you get a lamp overheat error and there is no dust on the filter, call for service immediately.

CAUTION

The lamps may be hot so use caution when removing the filters.

IMPORTANT

We do not recommend vacuuming or washing the filters as they are often contaminated with ink mist that cannot be easily removed.

Procedure

  1. Turn off the UV lamps.
  2. Wait for the lamp fans to stop to ensure the housing has cooled down.
  3. Remove the two foam filters from the top of the housing by lifting an exposed corner as shown below. The filter are flexible and will bend as you remove them.
  4. Place the new lamp filter by inserting one long edge into the channel on top of the lamps. Squeeze the filter so that the middle bulges and allow the other edge to slide into the other channel. Use your thumb to insert the filter under the edges of the lamp cover.

  5. Repeat these steps for the other filters.
