Create a spot colour from the control panel

This topic contains the following instructions.

1. Go to the spot colour editor

2. Create a new [CMYK] spot colour

3. Create a new [CIELAB] spot colour

4. Measure [CIELAB] spot colour values

5. Add [CMYK] values to a spot colour

6. Print a patch chart

Go to the spot colour editor

1. Touch [System]  → [Colour adjustment]  → [Spot colours] .

2. To find a spot colour, touch the [Search] button and enter a search string.

   

Create a new [CMYK] spot colour

1. Touch [Add].

2. Enter a name for the spot colour

   Add a spot colour

3. Use the [Input mode] option to select [CMYK].

4. Use the [Media family] drop-down list to select the media family.

5. Use the [Tint] option to enter a tint value (%).

6. Enter the C, M, Y, and K values in the [CMYK value] fields.

7. Touch [OK].

   The spot colour definition is stored in the custom spot colour library.

Create a new [CIELAB] spot colour

With the spot colour measurement procedure, you measure three locations of a sample of the spot colour. The printer calculates and returns the average Lab value and reports a ∆E to indicate the differences. The reported ∆E value is the largest difference between each individual measured value and the average of all measured values. A ∆E larger than 3 means a large difference. In that case you are advised to measure the spot colour again.

1. Touch [Add].

2. Use the [Input mode] option to select [CIELAB].

   

3. Enter the [L*], [a*], and [b*] values in the [Lab] option.

4. Touch [OK].

   The spot colour is stored in the custom spot colour library.

Measure [CIELAB] spot colour values

4. Follow the wizard instructions how to measure the colour.

   IMPORTANT

   If ∆E is larger than 3, you are advised to measure the spot colour again.

5. Touch [OK].

   The spot colour is stored in the custom spot colour library.

Add [CMYK] values to a spot colour

You can add [CMYK] values to a spot colour to apply to a specific media family.

1. Select the spot colour library and search the spot colour.

   

2. Select the spot colour and touch [Edit].

   

3. Touch [Add].

   

4. Use the [Media family] drop-down list to select the media family combination.

5. Use the [Tint] option to enter a tint value (%).

6. Enter the C, M, Y, and K values in the [CMYK value] fields.

   

7. Select a new media family.

   The new combination is listed.

   The [Old] colour patch is the colour rendering of the Lab definition. The [New] colour patch shows the rendering of the CMYK values for the media family.

8. Touch [OK].

Print a patch chart

To evaluate the CMYK values print a chart on media for the media family.

1. Expand the [Patch chart] options.

2. Use the [Media] drop-down list to select the media for the media family.

3. Use the [Step size] option to define the degree of patch variations.

4. In the [Print patch chart] field, touch [Start].
