Software updates can be operating system updates or PRISMAsync updates. Operating system updates are updates from Microsoft. PRISMAsync updates are updates from the Canon Service organisation.
In the Settings Editor you can find the version number of the operating system and the PRISMAsync software (). The configuration report contains a list of the PRISMAsync updates and the operating system updates.
The purpose of operating system updates is to update the operating system of the PRISMAsync.
An up-to-date operating system ensures that:
The printer has the latest updates of the operating system.
The printer is optimised for performance and security.
The purpose of PRISMAsync software updates is to update the PRISMAsync Print Server.

Four methods are available to update your software:
From On Remote Service (ORS).
Made available via https://downloads.cpp.canon/.
From the WSUS server of your company. Only operating system updates.
From the Microsoft server. Only operating system updates.
NOTE
On Remote Service (ORS) is the preferred method to retrieve software updates. To receive software updates through ORS, ensure the [Remote connection] is enabled on the printer.
All software updates are validated by the Canon organisation before they are released on https://downloads.cpp.canon/ and ORS.
When the operating system updates are retrieved from the WSUS server, you can check and validate the updates on a separate device in a test environment, before these are rolled out to your production environment.
When the operating system updates are retrieved from the Microsoft server, the updates are directly downloaded after they are available. In this situation the updates are not yet validated by the Canon organisation.
