Create and download a log file

Understand log file names

The log file names are composed of several parts depending on the contents.

<hostname>_TraceData_<yyyymmdd>_<hhmmss>

Reports/trace file manually created by a user at specified time on the specified system.

<hostname>_Reports_ <yyyymmdd>_<hhmmss>

Reports file manually created by a user at specified time on the specified system.

<hostname>_TraceData_ <printer error code>_<yyyymmdd>_<hhmmss>

Reports/trace file created by the specified system for a printer error at specified time.

Manually create a log file with reports/trace files in Settings Editor

To create the log file with reports/trace files, use the [Create log file with report / trace files] setting. Create this log file immediately after a print error occurs.

NOTE

Create the alternative log file with [Create log file with report files] setting only on request by the Service organization.

  1. Open the Settings Editor and go to: [Support]  → [Troubleshooting].

  2. Go to the [Logging and reports] section.

  3. Click [Create log file with report / trace files].

  4. In the [Log file with report / trace files (create and download)] dialog box, click [Create log file with report / trace files] to create a new log file.

  5. Click [OK].

Download a log file from Settings Editor

Log files can be created manually or automatically by the printer when an error occurred.

  1. Open the Settings Editor and go to: [Support]  → [Troubleshooting].

  2. Go to the [Logging and reports] section.

  3. Click [Create log file with report / trace files].

  4. In the [Log file with report / trace files (create and download)] dialog box, click the required log file to download the file.

  5. Store the log file on an external location.

  6. Click [OK].

Create a log file on control panel

To create the log file with reports/trace files, use the [Create log file with report / trace files] setting. Create this log file immediately after a print error occurs.

NOTE

Create the alternative log file with [Create log file with report files] setting only on request by the Service organization.

  1. On the control panel, touch: [System]  → [Setup]  → [System configuration]  → [Logging and reports].

    You can also touch the button on the left-hand side of the start screen of the control panel and touch [System configuration].

  2. Insert a USB device into a USB port of the control panel.

  3. Touch [Create] in the [Create and export log file with report / trace files].

  4. The log file is being created.

  5. The last created log file is selected in the [Export log file] dialog box.

  6. Touch [OK] to export this log file to the USB device.

    Touch [Cancel] to download this log file at a later moment.

Export a log file to USB device from control panel

You can export a manually or automatically created log file to a USB device.

  1. On the control panel, touch: [System]  → [Setup]  → [System configuration]  → [Logging and reports].

    NOTE

    You can also touch the button on the left-hand side of the start screen of the control panel and touch [System configuration].

  2. Insert a USB device into a USB port of the control panel.

  3. Touch [Export].

  4. Select the required log file.

  5. Touch [OK] to export the log file to the USB device.

Create a log file from PRISMAsync Remote Manager

  1. In the top right-hand menu, click [Support]  → [Create log file].

  2. You are redirected to the [Create log file with report / trace files] setting of the Settings Editor that belongs to the selected printer.

  3. When requested, log in to the Settings Editor.

Create a log file from PRISMAremote Manager

  1. To create a log file, click in the header and select [Create log file for printer_name].

  2. You are redirected to the [Create log file with report / trace files] setting of the Settings Editor that belongs to the selected printer.

  3. Log in to the Settings Editor.
