Print and wind with a tension bar

Introduction

Winding media with a tension bar, tight winding, is only used for flexible media in order to prevent media transportation issues. Media that is flexible and sensitive for buckling, but not too stiff, can be wound with a tension bar in unlocked position.

Before you begin

  • The use of the tension bar is set in the media type configuration in the RIP software. For winding with a tension bar, you must select [tension bar] under [Winding tension]. For more information, see Change the media settings.

  • Make sure you have placed a take-up roll core on the roll winder. For more information, see Load a take-up roll core onto the roll winder.

  • Make sure you have tape ready.

  • The printer is ready to print.

CAUTION
  • Do not position the tension bar when there is no media present. Keep your fingers away because the tension bar can fall down.

  • The winder has an emergency stopping device; It is located on the winder. Activating this emergency stopping device stops all winder motion.

Procedure

  1. On the operator panel tap on the [Output] icon.
  2. Tap on [Output configuration].
  3. Make sure [Wind the output] is set to [Yes] .
    NOTE

Make sure you set the output configuration in time, as you cannot change the configuration once the media has passed the clamp.

  4. Optional (licensed): set [ Wind the printed side] to [ Outside] or [Inside].

The default value is [ Outside]. When the setting is not available, the output will be winded with the printed side to the outside.

  5. Start a print job.

The printer spools the media until it reaches the tape position. The clamp closes and the operator panel gives a message indicating you can tape the media.

  6. Make sure the media guides are out of the way as they can damage the media.
  7. Take the leading edge of the media and align it on the core.
    NOTE

In case of flexible media use a ruler to ensure that the media is exactly centered on the core.

  8. Tape first the center and then the sides of the media to the core, as shown on the operator panel.

For outside winding feed the media along the front of the core, for inside winding feed the media along the back of the core.

    for outside winding:

    for inside winding:

    NOTE

In order to prevent winding issues when winding the media in the opposite direction of the roll in the drawer, the media has to be taped with enough tapes over the full width of the roll to straighten the curling edge.

  9. Place the tension bar lever in unlocked position.
  10. Lift up the tension bar and place it correctly on top of the media.
  11. On the operator panel tap on [Ready].

The printer starts printing while winding the job. Make sure the tension bar follows the media when the blouse is formed.

What to do next

When you want to stop winding you have to cut the media. For more information, see Cut the media, Cut the media (manual).
