When the printer has printed more than 40 seconds on certain media and then switches to wider media (larger in Z-direction (cross-feed direction)), print belt cleaning is necessary. An extra sheet from the wider media is transported from the paper tray towards the print belt. When the sheet is partly on the print belt, the sheet is stopped and kept in a fixed position. The print belt keeps running and the sheet slips over the upper side of the print belt and cleans the print belt in this way. After about four complete rotations of the print belt the sheet is released and transported to the top tray of the (first) high capacity stacker.
The automatic print belt cleaning does not give any productivity loss, because this clean procedure is done during the maintenance action of the printheads.
The sheet used for automatic print belt cleaning use the same (wider) media of the job. But not all media are suitable for this clean procedure. Then alternative media are used. These alternative media are defined in the Settings Editor.
