Tips and tricks for the Print Service Provider

Check the estimated amount of ink for printing

You can check the estimated amount of ink that is necessary for printing your design.

Within Adobe Acrobat Pro check [Files]  → [Properties]  → [Additional metadata]  → [Advanced]  → [Xmp Core Properties]  → [Xmp:OceVol:]. The volume of ink is expressed in milliliters.

IMPORTANT

The volume does not include the ink needed to print the color layer.

Check why the printer does not start printing the job

When the printer does not start printing the job, open the user interface to make sure the job is visible in the queue. If not, check for any error message in the [History of events].

Possible reasons:

  1. An Alto effect and a Brila effect are combined in the same job. Make sure you have applied one effect only to the job.

  2. A Brila job has been sent to the queue while the printer is configured without varnish ink.

  3. It is possible that the 'Printer channel configuration' for thePRISMAelevate XL Driver for Onyx has not been configured yet or is configured incorrectly. Make sure the ink channels in the PRISMAelevate XL Driver are configured in accordance with the printer model.

For more information on the printer configuration, see Configure the PRISMAelevate XL ALPS Engine printer.

Check why the PRISMAelevate XL ALPS Engine cannot be reached

Perform the following actions:

  1. Reboot the workstation.

  2. Repair the PRISMAelevate XL ALPS Engine via the installation program.

  3. Contact your IT administrator to check for any trouble with Internet Information Services.

Be cautious with media types and UV lamp power

  • The intensity of curing should not be reduced without prior assessment, even on supported media types such as Di-bond.

  • Insufficient curing may result in a peeling or warping printout. It is recommended to keep the level of curing at 7.

  • It is mandatory to test any new or unsupported media type under the supervision of an operator or an application specialist.

IMPORTANT

When warping or peeling occurs while printing, it can damage the printheads or the printer.

Prevent peeling or warping

  • For extreme cases of ink peeling or warping, you can try to print your design over a layer of white ink. This additional white layer is used as a background to prevent the edges from peeling or warping.

  • Make sure this white layer extends off the boundaries of your design. For example, you may print a 2x2 cm elevated artwork on a 4x4 cm background of white ink.
