The printer sends a list of the available media input trays to the host. The list is a list of logical input trays. The list has entries for each logical input tray and for the mandatory Media Source ID. Based on the media information, the host selects a logical input tray using the Media Source ID. In tray-to-tray mode the logical input trays are mapped to physical trays via the tray-to-tray mapping table. This table is available in the Settings Editor. It can be more convenient to use the tray-to-media mode and the corresponding tray-to-media mapping table, which decouples the IPDS setup from the physical tray contents.
The input tray numbers in the IPDS data stream start at 0, but the input tray numbers in the host start at 1. Therefore, the input tray numbers in the host are decremented by one before they are sent to the printer.
The tray-to-tray mapping table and the tray-to-media mapping table can be configured in the Settings Editor.
A tray is selected by the host. The tray must contain the correct media for the job, before the job is started.
In the Settings Editor, the tray-to-tray mapping table is available. The table maps a Media Source ID from the IPDS data stream to a physical tray.
The mapping from a Media Source ID to a printer input tray is defined by the logical trays. A logical tray maps a Media Source ID with either a physical input tray (tray-to-tray mode) or media (tray-to-media mode).
The IPDS tray number is mapped to the default logical tray number according to the tray-to-tray mapping table:

In the Settings Editor, the tray-to-media table is available. The table maps a Media Source ID from the IPDS data stream to a specific media.
Media can be selected by name instead of by tray. In this case, the media must be in the active transaction setup. The media name must be unique within the media catalogue.
The media defined in the tray-to-media setup is reported to the host as available media. Names that do not comply to the IPDS naming standard cannot be used in the tray-to-media setup. Also, media that has a device link profile attached cannot be used, because device links are not supported in transaction mode.
