Clean the platen

Introduction

Clean the platen every few months, or when you see pollution on the platen or on the back of your print.

Before you begin

Use Océ Colorado 1640 prescribed:

  • Nitrile gloves for handling ink

  • Lint free cloths

  • Cleaning liquid (IPA)

Use a 1mm diameter pin.

NOTE

For information on the prescribed maintenance materials, see List of Océ Colorado 1640 maintenance materials.

CAUTION
  • Wear the prescribed Océ Colorado 1640 nitrile gloves.

  • You can wear the Microflex gloves for an hour after they have been contaminated with ink. After an hour you must put on new gloves.

  • You can only wear the Ansell Touch N Tuff gloves for ten minutes after they have been contaminated with ink. After ten minutes you must put on new gloves.

Procedure

  1. Make sure the printer is not printing.
  2. Put on the Océ Colorado 1640 approved nitrile gloves.
  3. Open the top cover from the media input side.
  4. If present, remove the media from the paper path. For more information, see Remove media from the paper path
  5. Take a lint free cloth and clean the complete platen area. If necessary, you can clean the area surrounding the maintenance station as well.

When there is a lot of ink on the platen first dab the area to avoid rubbing ink into the suction holes. If necessary, take a new and clean cloth to wipe the area.

    IMPORTANT

Do not clean outside the indicated area to avoid damaging the system.

    IMPORTANT

Do not clean the transport rollers. When the rollers are polluted call your local service representative.

  6. Dampen the cloth with the cleaning liquid to remove any remaining ink.
    IMPORTANT
    • Use the prescribed cleaning liquid. Do not use any other cleaners.

    • Do not wet the platen directly, as you can damage the printheads.

  7. Open the suction holes with a 1mm diameter pin.
  8. When all residue ink is removed, wait for 3 to 4 minutes to let the liquid evaporate.
  9. Take a new and clean cloth to wipe the complete platen.
  10. Dispose the gloves, cloths and pin as chemical waste according to local regulations.
  11. Close the top cover.
