The varioPRINT 140 Series contains the SRA controller version 18/3 (9.04.08). The SRA controller represents the next generation of the Scalable Raster Architecture (SRA) series. The SRA controller is integrated in the PRISMAsync Print Server. The SRA controller adds the Page Description Language (PCL) to the varioPRINT 140 Series.
The varioPRINT 140 Series supports PCL6, PCL5e and PCL5c as the PCL Page Description Language. PCL6 consist of the following subsets:
PCL6 Enhanced: formerly known as PCL XL 3.0 which is a object oriented PDL similar to PostScript that is optimised for graphical user interfaces (like Windows GDI) and compressed to optimise for throughput.
PCL6 Standard: equivalent to PCL5e intended to provide backwards compatibility.
The PCL6 command set is compatible with the HPLJ4600.
For the technical reference on PCL6, see PCL 5 and PCL-XL reference manuals below.
Any limitations of PCL6 are described in this TRM.
PCL5e/5c is the PCL programming interface for the PRISMAsync Print Server. PCL5e/5c knows the following subsets:
PCL commands.
Printer Job Language (PJL): this feature allows you to set different/partly processing features of PCL5.
HP-GL/2: this is the Hewlett Packard graphical language.
The following documents describe all extensions of PCL and PJL for the Canon printers:
The SRA PCL5e extensions are described in manual:
The PJL extensions are described in manual:
PCL5: "PCL 5 Printer Language Technical Reference Manual" - HP Part No: 5961-0509.
PJL: "Printer Job Language Reference Manual" - Publication Number: 5021-0380.
PCL6: "PCL-XL Feature Reference Protocol Class 2.0", "PCL XL Feature Reference Protocol Class 2.1 Supplement" and "PCL XL Feature Reference Protocol Class 3.0 Supplement".
